Formalin was one of the earliest remedies made available by Aquarium Products for the treatment of freshwater and saltwater fish. For years, fish keepers and enthusiasts have used Formalin to eliminate external parasites such as anchor worms, body flukes, gill flukes, fish lice, monogenetic trematodes and Ick. It is highly effective against protozoan parasites which can cause sliminess of the skin, also known as grey slime disease, and scratching on rocks or décor items inside the aquarium. It will also control and help prevent diseases such as costia, chilodonella, ambiphyran, cryptocaryon, epistylis, oodinium, amyloodinium and trichodina. Formalin is an excellent parasiticide for use in aquariums, however special care should be taken when using. Formalin chemically removes oxygen from the water, thus supplying vigorous aeration with an air stone or power head and air diffuser during treatment is always recommended. Formalin is a solution of 37% formaldehyde gas dissolved in water. Formaldehyde is a potent germicide against parasitic organisms, and it has even shown certain properties to be considered an algaecide, fungicide, protozoacide and crustacide. For best results, use AP Biozyme after final treatment to help jump start biological filtration. Safe for freshwater and saltwater aquariums. 1 ounce treats 500 gallons of aquarium water.
