Included in this easy-to-use TESTS THE WATER QUALITY kit are two kinds of test strips. With theses strips, you can test for ammonia levels and know when to change the water in your aquarium or pond. Designed with the aquarist in mind, the enclosed test strips are fast and easy to use, with no wet or hazardous chemicals involved.
TESTS THE WATER QUALITY test strips give you an indication of your nitrate and nitrite concentrations, which can build up in your aquarium due to the presence of uneaten food, fish waste, bacteria, and ammonia. They also show you when the water quality levels have become harmful and a water change is needed. |
Directions
Using the Ammonia test strip
Fill the included vial to the line. Dip one Ammonia test strip up-and-down motion in the vial for 30 seconds with a gentle, steady, up and down motion. Remove and discard the test strip. After 3 minutes, compare the color of the vial to the color-chart card . Place the vial in the white circle until you find the color that best matches. Make note of the reading and take appropriate actions.
Using the Change-Your-Water test strip
Dip the test strip directly into your aquarium water sample and wait 2 seconds without moving the strip. Remove the test strip and shake once, briskly, to remove excess water. Wait 60 seconds and then match your test strip to the included color-chart card. Ideal for the beginning aquarist, this test yields accuracy and reliability that an expert can count on.
Taking Corrective Action
Ammonia test strip
• 0.0 ppm. These are ideal water conditions.
• 0.2 ppm. Caution carefully monitor further;
use REMOVES AMMONIA.
• 1.0 ppm. The water is causing your fish
stress. Use REMOVES AMMONIA, look for causes of ammonia such as excess feeding.
• 2.0 ppm. This water is harmful to your
fish. Use REMOVES AMMONIA, perform a 25% water change, being sure to use CONDITIONS TAP WATER in the water you’re adding, and ADDS BENEFICIAL BACTERIA in the filter and tank.
• 5.0 ppm. This water is extremely toxic to
your fish. Remove the fish immediately to a separate holding tank that has been prepared with CONDITIONS TAP WATER. Perform a 50% water change. Clean gravel and use ADDS BENEFICIAL BACTERIA to restart biological filter.
Change -Your-Water test strip
If the test strip indicates it’s time to change the water, use the following procedure:
Prepare an amount of water equivalent to 25% of the tank volume by allowing it to warm to room temperature. At this time add CONDITIONS TAP WATER toremove any chlorine or chloramines to the water you’re preparing. Remove 25% of the aquarium water at the same time. Add the conditioned water back into the tank. Remember to use the correct amount of ADDS BENEFICIAL BACTERIA after the water change.
